Essenger and Scandroid join forces in a formidable arsenal of vocoder and rock guitar. Reminiscent of early 80s synth-pop with a modern cyberpunk edge, “Empire of Steel” explores the exploitation of AI by a dystopian megacorporation. Could merging with the machines be the key to restoring balance?
“Just a few days before the album had to be turned in, I started working on a new track. Given the circumstances, I knew it would have a slim chance of making the album but by the end of the day it turned into one of my favorite songs I’ve written. I had a really strong rock chorus but it didn’t quite fit the aesthetic of my voice. I’ll totally pretend I didn’t write it with Scandroid in mind but I got lucky and he hopped on the track, delivering a killer performance and exceeding my expectations with his signature vocoder lines and his own verse.” – Essenger
“Empire of Steel” is the final single released in advance of Essenger’s highly-anticipated new album, After Dark. The new song is available as an instant-grat for fans who purchase the full album, and it’s out on all major streaming platforms now from independent synthwave label FiXT Neon.
Official lyric video for “Empire Of Steel” premieres this Friday, February 7th. Tune in!
